The new Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico recently opened following massive renovations. The property is the island’s only full-service hotel, offering an oceanfront haven on Puerto Rico’s north shore on 72 secluded acres. The property sits adjacent to El Yunque National Forest and encompasses nearly 600 guestrooms. Renovations began August 2019, and include a total redesign. The property was previously known as both Gran Meliá Hotel, and The Resort at Coco Beach, a Hyatt affiliate.

Now, the resort offers bungalow-style accommodations, 93 deluxe suites, five club suites and one presidential suite. All accommodations feature a neutral and earthy color palette, Atlantic Ocean views and complimentary WiFi. Suites feature private balconies or terraces. One-bedroom suites include dining rooms, kitchenettes and space for up to five guests.

Five dining and drinking options are now available. The property also boasts four pools and the largest lagoon-style pool in Puerto Rico. Guests enjoy access to a large spa, fitness center, two tennis courts, a golf course and basketball court.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, which promises empathetic service that anticipates the needs of our global guests,” said George Vizer, senior vice president, Americas franchise operations, Hyatt. “With this new addition, Hyatt continues its strong brand growth in the region and introduces the Hyatt Regency brand to Puerto Rico.”

“We are excited with the opening of this important hotel for Puerto Rico under the Hyatt Regency brand,” added Carla Campos, executive director, Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

“Tourism development is a key driver of economic growth and a priority for the Government of Puerto Rico. The island offers highly competitive incentive packages and benefits, which makes us an ideal destination for investors, developers and hotel management leaders such as Aimbridge Hospitality. We’re looking forward to all that is to come for the future of Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico.”

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
