Last year, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Aug. 5–29) in Scotland hosted 50,459 performances in 313 venues. Now you can pedal into the thick of things at the world’s largest arts festival with H+I Adventures following the end of this month’s Coast-to-Coast Scotland trip. The advanced-level excursion covers eight days and seven nights of mountain biking, ending just in time to enjoy the festival entertainment in Edinburgh. The route begins at Bonar Bridge on a westerly path through glens and along a technical single-track into Ullapool, then continues through remote areas on the way to Poolewe. Loch Maree, rocky trails through the mountains of Torridon, and the picturesque fishing hamlet of Shieldaig are all part of the fun. Once you’re through pedaling, unwind with some music, comedy and theater. Practically the entire city of Edinburgh becomes a performance venue during the Fringe Festival, with too many places to list. A few of the several hundred locations include shows at the Royal Botanic Garden’s West Gate, the Arthur Conan Doyle Center, Bedlam Theatre, Blackwell’s Bookshop, Greyfriars Kirk, Hill Street Design House, Old Saint Paul’s Church, Parliament House Square, the Scottish National Gallery and The Queen’s Hall, plus historic churches and lots of pop-up performances in unexpected corners.
