A World War II bomb disrupted Eurostar services to and from Paris last month. The discovery of an unexploded bomb north of the Gare du Nord station resulted in a planned shutdown of the high-speed rail line.
Eurostar said there will be “major disruption both to our services and transport throughout Paris” while the bomb is deactivated. The discovery also led to a partial closure of Autoroute 1; disruption to metro and RER rail services; and the temporary evacuation of residential areas.
In total, five Eurostar services were canceled, while others were delayed, retimed or rerouted. Eurostar offered free exchanges and refunds to customers due to travel Feb. 15–17, as it envisioned “high volume of customers and limited availability.”
A similar incident last year near London City Airport caused a temporary closure of the airport when an unexploded World War II bomb was discovered during planned work at King George V Dock next to the airport.
