The U.S. Department of Transportation recently submitted a proposal for Norwegian Air International to be permitted to begin operations within the United States. If the proposal is passed and the permit issued, Norwegian Air will begin flights between Boston (BOS) and Cork, Ireland (ORK). Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Boeing 737 aircraft would service the new routes.
“A final approval, based on the Open Skies Agreement between the United Statues and European Union, will be win-win for consumers and the economy on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Bjørn Kjos, CEO, Norwegian Group. “It will allow Norwegian to expand our U.S. operations. Our continued presence in the United States will create thousands of jobs and generate tens of millions of dollars of economic activity for the Group’s U.S. destinations.”
It is estimated the new service would also bring affordable and competitive fares to American travelers and create a spike in European travel to the United States.
