The longstanding rules regarding removing liquids and laptops from carry-on luggage before passing through security scanners may soon be a thing of the past. With the introduction of new 3-D security scanners at U.S airports, passing through security is sure to be quicker and simpler.
This summer the Transportation Security Administration will roll out new computed tomography machines at 14 airports across the country, including the original test airports in Boston (BOS) and Phoenix (PHX), where machines debuted for testing two years ago.
The new 3-D scanning technology will allow TSA officers to rotate images and examine individual items without having to pull a bag aside and unpack it manually. Due to these new capabilities, travelers will no longer need to unpack liquids or laptop computers from their luggage.
The introduction of these new machines will begin this summer, with a full deployment completed in 2020.
