Downtown Montréal is exceedingly walkable, especially if you plan to utilize the interior city, an underground concourse that connects much of Montréal’s downtown including many prominent hotels and landmarks, such as Hotel Bonaventure Montréal and the Bell Centre.

If you’re leaving downtown, Montréal has a robust subway system. With the help of a map, you can move all over Montréal proper using the subway — one line even tracks outside of Montréal, to Laval.

In addition to the subway system, Montréal has an extensive bus network. Buses are a little more weather vulnerable, though, so check the forecast before planning your bus trip.

If you plan on moving throughout the city frequently, consider a pass that allows unlimited travel via city transit for a prescribed amount of time. The pass is available for evenings, weekends, one-day and three-day increments.

Public transportation is one of the best ways to get to know a city. Instead of taking a rideshare everywhere, hop on the subway and see the town.
