A recent online campaign designed to pit air travelers against one another by posting “shameful” pics of fellow passengers towing, what they deem to be, oversized carry-on bags takes on a new — and far more positive twist — thanks to Boeing’s spot-on approach to real-world travel issues.

The Seattle-based airline manufacturer is offering a new option in its 737 design: Space Bins that accommodate six standard-sized carry-on bags, a 50 percent per bin increase (up from four to six bags per bin) over its previous design.

Alaska Airlines lays claim to ordering the first 737s with the Space Bin option, with delivery slated for late 2015.

In addition to avoiding fist-to-cuff altercations at boarding prompted by initiatives to “shame” fellow travelers, projections suggest the more realistically designed bins will cut boarding time, improve on-time performance and require less intervention from flight attendants.
