A new report shows the country’s most miserable airports: Newark (EWR), Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and LaGuardia (LGA) rank near the top of the list.
ValuePenguin.com looked at the U.S.’ busiest airports and ranked each based on the overall misery travelers endure there.
The findings were based on data from 84 American airports having at least 10,000 departures annually, and focused on six areas: flight cancellation rate, flight delay rate, tarmac delay rate, average length of delays, severe delay rate (those lasting an hour or longer) and security wait time during rush hour.
The airports were ranked with scores between zero (worst) and 100 (best), according to metrics compiled from the collective data.
Based on these criteria, the nation’s worst airports include:
- Newark Liberty International: Newark, New Jersey
- Chicago O’Hare International: Chicago, Illinois
- LaGuardia Airport: New York, New York
- Dallas/Fort Worth International: Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
- Boston Logan International: Boston, Massachusetts
The least miserable airports can all be found in the western United States.:
- Kahului Airport: Kahului, Hawai’i
- Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International: San Jose, California
- Daniel K. Inouye International: Honolulu, Hawai’i
- Spokane International: Spokane, Washington
- Portland International: Portland, Oregon
