Membership in the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck expedited screening program doubled in the past year, reaching 2 million subscribers. The service launched in October 2011, enabling members to leave laptops and small bottles of liquids in their carry-on bags and keep their shoes and light jackets on at checkpoints. Membership grew significantly after the program began accepting applicants in December 2013 through MorphoTrust and recently expanded from 1 million in March 2015 to 2 million this month.
TSA reported 99.14 percent of PreCheck passengers waited less than five minutes each last year. The program operates more than 450 lanes at 167 airports, with 13 airlines participating in the program.
