2023 marked a historic year for Miami International Airport. Recent reports show MIA achieved its highest-ever annual passenger total, seeing 52.3 million travelers in 2023, which marked a 3.2 percent increase over the previous year’s record. International travel surged 8.5 percent, with 23.2 million passengers. Domestic traffic was just slightly down, at 0.5 percent and 29.1 million.

American Airlines largely fueled the performance, serving 31.4 million passengers in 2023. The airline additionally increased its year-over-year seat capacity at MIA by 10 percent during its winter 2023 schedule, reaching 380 peak-day flights.

New carriers to the airport in the last year include Volaris El Salvador, Norse Atlantic Airways and Porter Airlines. With 96 passenger and cargo airlines, MIA now boasts the highest number among all U.S. airports.

Cargo operations also reached new heights in 2023, with 1 percent growth for 2.78 million tons.

MIA received historic investments in its infrastructure and maintenance needs throughout 2023 from a $7 billion Capital Improvement Program and a $1.7 billion maintenance modernization plan. The airport will see new services, new airlines, capital investments and maintenance upgrades in 2024.
