Ovolo Hotels unveiled the newly revamped Laneways By Ovolo in Melbourne’s vibrant cultural district, in the heart of the city’s many tangled laneways, hence the name.

The new Laneways By Ovolo features redesigned public spaces and rooms by Australian interior design firm Luchetti Krelle, including a refreshed lobby with reception pods; and an Honesty Bar featuring a selection of snacks, bottled cocktails, wine and Champagne.

“We really enjoyed creating a sophisticated and stylish space that gives a nod to the building’s ’80s era,” said Rachel Luchetti, interior designer and principal, Luchetti Krelle. “The nostalgia aesthetic was a perfect fit for this project, and we have interpreted this with an injection of color and energy in classic Ovolo style.”

The hotel’s 42 redesigned rooms feature an ’80s nostalgia aesthetic characterized by scattered, brightly colored shapes and lines, combined with black-and-white graphic patterns. A brand-new addition is Room 303, an exclusive suite designed by renowned interior designer, editor-in-chief of Belle magazine and judge on the popular Australian TV series The Block, Neale Whitaker.

Room 303 boasts a collection of original art, limited-edition objects and soft furnishings hand selected by Whitaker, including a sculptural lamp by Sarah Nedovic Gaunt and an illustration of Whitaker himself, created by former Ovolo staffer Flynn Cowan in the style of Andy Warhol. Ovolo tapped Melbourne-based artist Nunzio Miano to bring the room to life with his generous use of color and flamboyant style. Room 303 also comes equipped with a 100-song Spotify playlist, personally curated by Whitaker.

Laneways by Ovolo features the new 120-seat restaurant Amphlett House, conceived by Ovolo’s director of kitchen operations Ian Curley, with support from head chef Ben Green. The menu includes highlights like smoked bone marrow on toast, with parsley and shallot salad, and Oysters with mignonette dressing and shaved horseradish.

Amphlett House’s cocktail menu, curated by mixologist Andrea Gualdi, uses completely sustainable Australian ingredients and features such signatures as a Finger Lime Daiquiri and a Eucalyptus Smoked Margarita. The beer selection features boutique Australian breweries like Bonehead, Young Henrys and Better Beer, while 75 percent of the wines come from local producers.

Laneways by Ovolo offers all guests a selection of unique, complimentary guest perks, including breakfast to go, high-speed WiFi, in-room minibar (first round on Ovolo), self-service laundry, all-day sweets, welcome goodies, social hour at Amphlett House and a tree planted by Eden Project. Double occupancy room rates in July start at about $204 per night.
