Daejeon, South Korea, looks forward to August 2024 and the return of its iconic tradition, the Zero O’Clock Festival. This year, the event is held Aug. 9 –17 with a time travel theme featuring past, present and future zones. Find events pertaining to each zone’s characteristics in the area of Jungang-ro Street, from Daejeon Station to the former site of the South Chungcheong Provincial Office. These streets will be free of vehicles, and public transportation is highly recommended.
Eight of the city’s mascot characters join the festivities, roaming festival grounds and stopping for photos with visitors in designated areas. What else can visitors expect from the festivities? Nine different large-scale street parades for nine days, a D-culture Festival, K-Pop concerts, science and technology exhibitions, a family theme park and so much more!
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said to The Korea Post, “The Daejeon 0 O’clock Festival is not just an event to eat and play, but a festival on a summer night where you can revitalize the local economy and enjoy the fun and charm of Daejeon.”
Train services will be enhanced for the event, and the rail station gets in on the fun with decorative elements and a festive makeover in celebration of the festival’s connection to trains. Songs related to Daejeon will be played on trains, getting visitors in the spirit even before arrival. Check for special offers and a range of exclusive programs.
Looking to take the event more global, the city government invited overseas art troupes to perform and tasked 100 global supporters from 23 countries to help promote the festival. The goal is to attract 2 million visitors, up from last year’s 1.09 million attendees.

Sep 17, 2024Uncover the Beauty of Blue Lagoon’s Highland Base Kerlingarfjöll in Iceland
If past trips to Iceland have focused on Reykjavik and nearby sites such as the steamy waters of the Retreat at Blue Lagoon, you may not be familiar with this iconic destination’s other hotel address: Highland Base Kerlingarfjöll, centrally located in an isolated mountain range in the country’s mountain region. It was named for a mythical giantess transformed to stone by the rays of the rising sun, and the resulting 82-foot pillar of volcanic rock still stands as both a reminder of the sun’s might and a powerful argument for sleeping late.
