Later this year, Four Seasons will open its private island hotel in the Maldives, and it will be located inside a World Biosphere Reserve. The luxury property, called Voavah, is the company’s first private island accommodation; Four Seasons is calling it “the world’s only exclusive-use UNESCO hideaway located in a World Biosphere Reserve.” The five-acre island, called Baa Atoll, can accommodate an exclusive 22 guests, who have access to seven bedrooms, a beach house, a dive center, a spa and a 62-foot yacht to explore the area. The beach house will include an open-air living room, a dining room, kitchen, pool deck, library and loft lounge. Bedrooms are located on the beach, over a lagoon and in mezzanine suites. The atoll was named the Indian Ocean’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2011. It spans 463 square miles and includes 75 islands. Four Seasons, which has other Maldives properties, partnered with a local environmental consultancy and a manta ray project to support conservation; cultural, health, and education initiatives; and more. The island is accessible via a 40-minute seaplane or 20-minute speedboat ride. Diving, snorkeling, fishing, swimming and surfing are among the available activities.
