Asiana Is Celebrating Its 22nd Anniversary. What Can Travelers From North America Expect From Asiana In 2010?

Our goal is to raise our competitiveness on U.S. routes and provide increasing convenience to our passengers. The U.S.–Korean Visa Waiver Program started in 2008; since then, Asiana has increased weekly flights on the twice-daily L.A. route from 11 to 14. We increased flights to New York from four to seven weekly starting in May 2009. We will be increasing our three weekly flights to Chicago to four, and our current four weekly flights to Seattle to five.

Asiana considers passengers’ characteristics and tastes when designing in-flight meals. In addition to Korean dishes, we develop Western, Chinese and Japanese meals. Our Onboard Crew Chefs & Sommeliers Service features teams of cabin crew trained as chefs or sommeliers. Asiana’s wine selection is chosen by world-class sommeliers to complement our in-flight meals.

Asiana Has Won Numerous Accolades For Superior Onboard Service, Including Awards From Global Traveler Readers. What Makes Your Flight Crew Stand Out From The Competition?

Asiana continuously develops specialized services, something which so far is unique to our airline. Our Specialized Service Teams — 371 crew members in 20 teams — are devoted to creating beautiful memories for our passengers and provide 10 different types of specialized services.

Asiana received the 2003 Mercury Award, Gold for our Flying Magic Services, in which flight attendants present magic shows, play instruments to passengers celebrating birthdays and offer face painting, cocktail shows, stretching exercise and more.

With our Delighters In-flight Fashion Show, which won a Mercury Award, Bronze in 2005, flight attendants wear traditional costumes of countries to which Asiana flies as well as the traditional Korean hanbok.

In 2007, Asiana won the Mercury Grand Award for its Charming Services, in which professionally trained flight attendants offer make-up and moisturizing services to passengers.

How Is The Korean Culture Reflected In Asiana’s Service?

Korea was influenced by Confucianism, which emphasizes etiquette, respecting others and taking care of guests with all of one’s heart. It lies deep inside the lifestyle of Koreans and is reflected in Asiana’s service mentality.

Asiana offers the largest lounges in Incheon International Airport, which have been highly praised by our customers; the Chef’s Corner has been especially popular. Our Happy Mom Service offers passengers traveling with young infants express check-in and baggage services and provides breast-feeding covers free of charge.

Asiana began a $70 million cabin upgrade in 2006, which includes the Audio Video On Demand system and more legroom at all seats. In 2009, we completed upgrades to 16 aircraft. Asiana also invested $6.7 billion to purchase 30 A350XWBs, the latest Airbus model. Asiana will accept the new aircraft starting in 2016, with a completed order by 2022.
