The Lufthansa Group announced plans to add FlyNet WiFi service on short- and medium-haul planes. That plan should be completed by March 20, for the company’s fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.
By April, 31 Austrian Airlines planes will have the same capability. By summer, 69 Eurowings planes will also have WiFi. And by the summer 2018, the entire fleet of A320 planes will have WiFi capabilities.
The company is offering a promotion for passengers onboard the first 10 Lufthansa and Austrian planes for free internet during a test phase. The trial period will last the first quarter of this year and will allow the company to collect data on usage.
After the trial period, passengers will have to pay for WiFi, packaged in three tiers:
- FlyNet Message costs €3 and allows you to use email, iMessage or WhatsApp
- FlyNet Surf allows passengers to surf the web for €7
- FlyNet Stream, at €12, also allows video streaming
The packages can be paid for via credit or debit card and through payment services such as Paypal.
