Travelers who find themselves in the harbor-side town of Port Clinton, Ohio on Lake Erie can peak into the past at the Liberty Aviation Museum. Located at the Erie-Ottawa Country Regional Airport, the museum includes a fully flyable WW2 North American B-25 Mitchell Bomber, which makes appearances at air shows with a specially trained pilot and crew. To herald the museum’s opening last summer, a second, completely refurbished B-25 — known as Georgie’s Gal — joined the collection of aircraft and vintage vehicles.
A number of events are scheduled throughout the year, including the June 26–27 Airliner’s International 2013 Cleveland Tour, with scenic flights available on a Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander. Before you leave, take off your goggles and loosen your scarf in the Tin Goose Diner, an authentic, vintage 1950s diner relocated from Pennsylvania and fully restored to its original glory. Breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes are named with flight history in mind, from Fighter Scramble eggs to Wing Walker pot roast.
