Equestrian excitement arrives in Wellington, Florida, April 6–9, when the LEXUS International Gay Polo Tournament gallops into town. Honored in 2022 with the Champion of Equity & Diversity in Sports award from Palm Beach County Sports Commission, the event melds fun, fashion and equestrian finesse while facilitating a culture of inclusiveness and community, recognizing the skills and talents of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender athletes.

“As our world continues to evolve, we remain a constant at the forefront, working to create inclusiveness and equality in not only polo and equestrian sports, but in the community as a whole,” shared Chip McKenney, founder, Gay Polo League. “We are honored to have so many friends and allies join us each year.”

Presented by Douglas Elliman Real Estate, this lively event kicks off April 6 with the invitation-only GPL Polo Players Welcome Reception. It’s followed by the GPL Polotini Wigstock cocktail reception April 7, with special guests, cocktails and light nibbles. Be sure to pack your favorite wig, as hairpieces are both welcome and actively encouraged. On April 8, the tournament and a highly-anticipated tailgate competition take place.

At 1 p.m., 16 players from around the world vie for The Senator’s Cup and The Founder’s Cup, with competition taking place on Isla Carroll West Field. Themed tailgate parties are a big part of the experience and festivities, with awards going to Best in Show, Best Cuisine, Best Cocktail, Best Tailgate and Best Multiple Tailgate. Past theme favorites featured takes on films such as Brunch at Tiffany’s, The Wizard of Oz and Steel Magnolias. Proceeds from the event benefit OnePULSE Foundation, launched following the tragic events at Pulse Nightclub in 2016.
