With Mutual Rescue’s Doggy Day Out program, travelers can get their workout in and give back, all in one day. Travelers and participants can use the program to take a dog from a local shelter on an outing and get their steps in while visiting a new city.
Doggy Day Out encourages volunteers and out-of-towners to walk a shelter dog in a new locale. Feel free to take the dogs on a hike, nature walk, beach day, run around a nearby lake and even lunch or dinner at a pet-friendly restaurant.
“Doggy Day Out encourages people who might not typically have time to volunteer to engage with local shelters and advocate for the dogs,” says Carol Novello , founder, Mutual Rescue. “It’s also a great excuse to get out and get some exercise or explore with a canine sidekick.”
