JetBlue changes its rules regarding support animals beginning July 1. JetBlue will require more documentation on the animals and for passengers to sign a waiver in case of injury.
Part of the new rules, passengers who wish to travel with support animals need to notify the airline 48 hours in advance and provide documentation from a medical professional and a veterinarian. This might be troublesome for people booking last-minute flights.
This decision comes after last year’s incident on Delta Air Lines, when one passenger was mauled by another’s emotional support dog. Airlines also worried about the quality of their cabins and allergies of surrounding passengers. The new rules will hopefully take away some of these concerns and make flights enjoyable for everyone.
From now on, only dogs, cats and miniature horses will be accepted as emotional support animals. More exotic animals such as hedgehogs or ferrets will be prohibited.
