April marks Earth Month and to celebrate, JetBlue kicks off a series of eco-friendly initiatives online, on board, in local communities and at its home terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

JetBlue announced its 10th annual One Thing That’s Green campaign, highlighting the airline’s commitment to environmentalism and encouraging customers and crewmembers to undertake one green initiative in their daily lives.

“As an airline, we’re always looking for ways to lessen our carbon footprint. As such, we encourage our customers to also take steps in their everyday lives to lessen their impact,” said Icema Gibbs, director, corporate social responsibility, JetBlue.

Online, JetBlue is encouraging friendly rivalry between cities in its network. Throughout April, customers and crewmembers can cast their choice in the Green City Vote to determine which JetBlue city will win a green space. Votes include Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, San Juan and Washington, D.C.

In Austin, winner of last year’s Green City Vote, JetBlue added more greenery to the city’s scenery by building a new green space at Zilker Botanical Garden, restoring plants and adding sustainable elements.

In New York, JetBlue will help restore and replenish areas in Long Island City, home to JetBlue’s New York City Support Center. At JFK, the airline donated space throughout its terminal to educate customers on everyday items that can be recycled.

JetBlue also partnered with The Ad Council and Keep America Beautiful to raise awareness of the benefits of recycling. The airline will run a special “I Want to Be Recycled” campaign video on board flights.
