The Japan National Tourism Organization announced it set an all-time tourism record in 2019. The country received 31 million overseas visitors last year.

“Japan continues to be a destination of tremendous interest for Americans, and that interest is clearly growing — as evidenced by the fact that we saw a 13 percent increase in the number of U.S. travelers to Japan in 2019, when compared to the year before,” said Naohito Ise, executive director, Japan National Tourism Organization in New York.

Japan was a top destination in 2019 and continues to garner attention in 2020, particularly as the 2020 Summer Olympics near and travel publications name Japanese destinations to “top” lists of all kinds.

The Japan National Tourism Organization developed the Your Japan 2020 project to celebrate the upcoming year of Japanese tourism. Your Japan 2020 offers travelers experiences and deals nationwide, special events, flight discounts, complimentary domestic flights in some cases and more.

“Through the Your Japan 2020 campaign, we are encouraging international travelers to visit more off-the-beaten path destinations and partake in truly remarkable experiences all year long,” said Ise. “Tourism to Japan has grown significantly year over year, and 2020 is projected to be our best year yet.”
