Istanbul Airport opened a new museum to help showcase the “Treasures of Turkey: Faces of the Throne” exhibition. The Istanbul Airport Museum establishes the airport as not only a global hub and Turkey’s gateway, but also an innovative space showcasing art and culture.
“We want to turn the time spent at the airport into a unique experience. Our aim is to turn our passengers attention on art and culture,” said Kadri Samsunlu, CEO, İGA Airport Operation Inc.
For first-time visitors or history buffs, the museum offers information on 18 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites in Turkey, as well as features art spanning Turkey’s vast history.
“Treasures of Turkey: Faces of the Throne” features more than 300 distinct pieces and artifacts from 29 Turkish museums, including the Kadesh Treaty, the first peace treaty known to man.
“With this museum, we have been able to gather some original artifacts under a single roof, which would otherwise be impossible to set eyes on at a single time,” said Samsunlu.
The museum is open 9 a.m.–9 p.m., daily. Admission is €5, and free for guests ages 8 and younger.
