Following the lead set by Marriott International and InterContinental Hotels Group earlier this year, Hyatt is the latest major hospitality brand to announce it aims to eliminate miniature toiletries globally.

Last week, Hyatt Hotels Corp., unveiled its forthcoming plan to remove small toiletries from hotel rooms. As Marriott and IHG announced previously, Hyatt will introduce bulk-style amenities in bathrooms. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion will be replaced.

Hyatt’s green initiatives expand past this initiative, as the portfolio also looks into increasing how many accessible water stations are available throughout public spaces, making it easier for guests to refill reusable water bottles. For meetings and other events, the brand is serving water in carafes and other containers to reduce how many bottles of water are used.

The changes, Hyatt said, highlight a commitment to sustainability while underscoring the brand’s commitment to wellness by focusing on the importance of proper hydration.

Single-use plastics will still be used if there is a concern of water quality, according to the hotel. The brand’s other efforts to reduce plastic use include removing plastic straws and drink picks and increasing the use of recyclable and compostable materials in to-go containers.

These efforts are brand-wide, but other individual properties take the mission even further. Several properties use in-house water bottling plants that use and reuse glass bottles; several properties distribute reusable water bottles to all guests; and Park Hyatt Istanbul even installed filtered water spouts in all guestrooms.

In 2018, statista.com counted 843 Hyatt properties globally. Now, Hyatt offers 222 properties throughout the Asia-Pacific region and 39 properties in Africa and the Middle East.
