In honor of the rare total solar eclipse in 2026, HX launched a Solar Eclipse Expedition, Aug. 3–19, allowing travelers to experience a once-in-a-lifetime journey to witness this astrological event in East Greenland. The newly announced expedition marks HX’s 130th anniversary, celebrating more than a century of Arctic exploration since the company’s first expedition in 1896.
The 17-day expedition departs from Svalbard, where travelers then venture through the world’s largest national park in Greenland. Here, Arctic species like musk oxen and polar bears can be spotted across this 375,000-square-mile reserve.
The highlight of the trip is Scoresby Sound, where the total solar eclipse can be witnessed amidst the glaciers and fjords. The MS Spitsbergen also includes stops and experiences in the Denmark Strait and Reykjavik, Iceland, as well as adventures in Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
