If you haven’t yet discovered the natural beauty available in Arkansas, autumn is the perfect time to explore. Begin in Bentonville, known as the Mountain Biking Capital of the World, where more than 70 miles of trails beckon. Next, start your drive. Follow Pig Trail Scenic Byway from Little Rock, a 19-mile scenic byway through the Boston Mountains, or the 290-mile Scenic 7 Byway traversing four separate geographical regions.

Arkansas is called The Natural State for good reason: Filled with forests, lakes, rivers and mountains, it’s a nature lover’s dream come true. See for yourself by hiking to Hawksbill Crag by taking Whitaker Point Trail. This 2.7-mile loop trail is regarded as one of the state’s best-loved paths, and brings hikers to legendary Hawksbill Crag, distinguished as the state’s most-photographed natural landmark. This rocky outcrop bears a strong resemblance to a hawk’s fierce beak, and extends out over a sheer, 100-foot drop. Hikers are rewarded by stunning views of Ozark-St. Francis National Forest below.
Feeling a little splashy? Experience an adrenalin rush while getting up close to the 135-mile-long Buffalo National River, one of the last undammed rivers in America. Options to canoe, kayak or raft the river’s rapids and float leisurely in tranquil pools allow for views of dramatic bluffs and forested slopes. As a bonus, abundant local wildlife — which includes more than 350 species — means there’s a high likelihood of glimpsing one or more of the magnificent local residents.

There’s also world-class fly fishing to be enjoyed on the 720-mile-long White River. Lauded as one of the world’s foremost trout fishing destinations, the White River shines in late fall, when throngs of trout surge through the waters before the advent of winter. Book a guided fly-fishing expedition with a knowledgeable local guide who can help you maximize your Ozark Mountain experience.

Jun 3, 2025Now’s the Time to See Giza, the Nile and Beyond
All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.

As I write this letter, I am halfway across the Atlantic Ocean on my return from an epic golf trip in Ireland. The weather was magnificent: sunshine and no rain ... quite unusual by Irish standards. We were happy to leave our rain gear and extra warm clothing in the hotel rooms as we headed out every day.
