By now many of you are familiar with the popular Amazon Alexa voice-powered device. The intelligent personal assistant developed by Amazon is capable of voice interaction; music playback; to-do lists; alarms; podcast streaming; playing audiobooks; providing weather, traffic and news; and control of several other smart devices, such as in-home lighting. After cornering the consumer market, Amazon looks to expand Alexa to company and hotel use.
Amazon Alexa is already used in several hotels for various reasons. The Wynn in Las Vegas installed one in every room to allow guests to control the TV, lower the blinds, adjust the room temperature and make front desk requests.
Best Western implemented Alexa Echo in a dozen properties. At Best Western Plus Hawthorne Terrace, the Echo greets guests on arrival to their room and allows them to ask for services like more towels or local dining recommendations.
Hotels have partnered with third-party tech providers like Volara, to personalize Alexa devices to fulfill hotel-specific requests. Some hotels also expressed interest in using Alexa as a security system for guests and housekeeping, acting as an alert or panic button in case of an issue.
