The Year of Picasso is a global milestone honoring the 50th anniversary of the Malaga, Spain-born artist’s passing. At Hotel Don Pepe, a Gran Meliá Hotel, its newly debuted Picasso A La Mesa menu takes diners on a culinary journey that celebrates the commemorative year. Chef Íñigo Urrechu, of ERRE & Urrechu restaurant, offers the experience now through Nov. 30.
Priced at 70 euros, excluding the wine pairing option, the menu takes diners through the life and artistic legacy of Pablo Picasso. Urrechu is a renowned grill master. The journey begins with emulsified sea bass tartare and spherical olive, in honor of Picasso’s Blue Period, and moves on to a silky lobster gazpacho with fresh vegetables, for the Pink Period. A bacalao tellagorri cod dish celebrates his Vallauris period, before the main course of farmhouse chicken with langoustines and scallops, representing Picasso’s surrealistic era. For his Cubist stage, dessert features a vanilla and osmotic pear with a sponge cake infused with oil.
Other Year of Picasso celebrations include exhibitions, events and initiatives worldwide, all paying homage to the life and work of Picasso.
