Like getting off the beaten track? If Albania is still an undiscovered chapter in your personal travel tale, consider a custom itinerary with Kutrubes Travel, family owned and operated for more than 100 years. The tour begins in Tirana, founded in the 17th century by Sulejman Pasha of Mulleti, who created a small town featuring public baths and a community oven. Sites include the Martyrs’ Cemetery, Tanners Bridge, the Clock Tower and the Mosque of Et’hem Bej. While in Tirana, there’s the opportunity to peruse the collections at the National Historical Museum, visit the Gallery of Arts and Buneci House and travel to Mt. Dajti via cable car.

Other highlights include the Old Castle at Kruja and the Scanderbeg Museum, named for Albania’s national hero from the 15th century. Visit the ancient Roman seaport city of Durres, home to one of the largest Roman amphitheaters in the Balkans. Among the host of other destinations are the museum city and UNESCO Heritage Site of Gjirokastra; a drive through the southern highlands where traditional raki brandy and wine are produced; the Albania Riviera at Saranda; the Ali Pasha Fortress at Porto Palermo Bay; and the archaeological site at Apolonia. Further details and departure dates for the 10-night, 11-day trip are available via the website.
