Jumping on an industry-wide bandwagon, Hawaiian Airlines is the latest to raise checked bag fees for first and second luggage pieces.

Travelers in the main cabin on the airline will now pay $30 for their first checked bag and $40 for the second. Both categories represent an increase of $5.

Hawaiian is following other major U.S. airlines, including American, United and Delta Air Lines, all raised their bag fees this year. Hawaiian said it was the first fee increase on checked bags since 2012.

“Hawaiian’s checked bag fee for neighbor island flying [$25 for a first bag, $35 for a second bag] remains unchanged, as do discounts and complimentary allowances for HawaiianMiles members [who pay $15 for a first bag and $20 for a second bag on flights within the state of Hawaii],” the airline said in a press release. “Guests flying internationally may still check two bags at no charge.”

Any Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard cardmembers who purchase tickets between Hawai’i and any of Hawaiian’s 12 North American gateway cities directly from Hawaiian Airlines also get free checked first bags.
