On Friday, April 12, the Purple Parrot Cafe hosts its Ninth Annual Wine Festival at the historic Hattiesburg Train Depot, attended by a host of wine glitterati from around the globe that includes representatives from California’s Fiddlehead Cellars, Chile’s Aresti Winery, Germany’s Dr. Hermann Wines, Spain’s Celler Malondro and New Zealand’s Isabel Estate.
The setting couldn’t be better: Not only is the Purple Parrot Cafe renowned for its 1,000-label wine list and Wine Spectator awards, it’s also staffed by a number of waiters who are also accredited sommeliers. The wine festival will benefit the non-profit Extra Table organization founded by the cafe’s owner, chef and author Robert St. John, with the goal of addressing national hunger issues. Tickets are $85, and festival attendees will have the opportunity to taste unlimited wines from a selection of 100 labels. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Extra Table.
