Arrival/Check-in: I’m not a fan of city driving, but I made it to University City, where the hotel is located, relatively easily. My only problem was finding the hotel, as my GPS kept leading me around the block. Luckily, the property, slightly tucked away, has good street signage that pointed me in the right direction. I pulled up, and within minutes my car was on its way to valet parking. I was struck by the warm décor of the lobby, rich with woods and homey accents. After a quick check-in, I headed to my sixth-floor room. (28/30)

Guest Quarters: My room was large, with a spacious entryway that offered ample room to maneuver with my luggage. To the right of the door was a closet, to the left the bathroom, which was a decent size. If I could change anything, it would have been the water pressure; it was a bit weak. The Crabtree & Evelyn bath products had a fresh scent, and I was pleased the hotel provided a decorative wooden basket for damp towels. Hotels encourage guests to hang up towels to reuse or leave dirty towels on the floor, but rarely do they provide somewhere to put the towels. The basket was tucked away and helped keep things tidy. I slept soundly on the hotel’s Serenity Bed which was flanked by two bedside tables. An armoire housed the TV and minibar. An L-shaped work area gave me plenty of space to spread out and get work done. Outlets were easily accessible and plentiful; Internet was available for a daily fee. A small sitting area, with an armchair and a small table, was in front of the windows, overlooking Philadelphia. (28/30)

Services/Amenities: I was only at the property overnight, so I did not have much time to enjoy its myriad offerings. I squeezed in a quick workout and was impressed with the fitness facilities. The equipment was new, with a nice selection of cardio machines. The University Club serves an extensive breakfast buffet. I would have liked to try Penne Restaurant and Wine Bar and hope to return to sample the homemade pasta. Business services and meeting and event facilities are also on site. (37/40)

The Experience: Located in University City, the hotel is a cab ride from the city center but is easily accessible, offering loads of attractive amenities. It’s a convenient option for travelers looking for sanctuary away from the hubbub of Center City or for those visiting the area’s universities or hospitals.
