Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel, celebrates Earth Day with a fun eco-twist on its daily wine hour. On April 22, guests sip wine along with a healthy granola and trail mix snack they custom-blend using provided ingredients. The hotel will also dim the lights to preserve electricity and place votive candles around the Map Room.

Other environmentally friendly hotel initiatives include:

• Green Rooms: A small switch at the top of each door monitors when a guest enters and exits the room. After 10 minutes of inactivity after a guest leaves the room, the lights turn off and the HVAC keeps the room at 72 degrees, conserving electricity and heat/air conditioning. Don’t want the lights and HVAC turning off on you? Fear not, a motion sensor located inside the room prevents this from happening when a guest is present.
• Green Means Go: Saving paper and avoiding excessive room cleanings is another Ink48 priority. Each room has a privacy and make up room button. When a guest pushes the button, the doorbell lights up red, for privacy, or green for make-up service. This information is sent to a server accessed by the housekeeping staff allowing for a more efficient cleaning system and eliminating the need for door hanger cards.
• Green Central: The hotel’s HVAC system is controlled from a central computer in the engineering office, allowing engineers to ensure each unit is running efficiently and not using too much energy. Additionally, the temperatures on each unit can be remotely set from the computer guarantee that HVAC unites are not left running in vacant rooms.
