As of September 2019, travelers enrolled in TSA’s Global Entry program — which allows U.S. citizens to bypass immigration lines by checking in via a kiosk using their passport and fingerprints — had to renew their membership. Travelers had a six-month grace period after the expiration date to wait for their application to be processed.
Now, travelers have up to one year past the expiration date of the membership to renew Global Entry status.
The validity past the expiration date accounts for time to process renewal paperwork, which could take months, but a recent staff shortage at U.S. Customs and Border Protection led to a renewal delay of more than three months for about one-third of renewal applicants.
Global Entry membership will continue to be valid for one year after the expiration date so long as the applicant filed the paperwork for renewal before this date.
