According to Gallup’s 2014 Hospitality Industry Study, based on data from 13,515 adults aged 18 and older, about one in five customers of the hospitality industry are fully engaged, with millennials at 20 percent. When it comes to spending habits, engaging Generation X guests offers a much stronger return on investment. On average, Gen Xers spent about $538 at the hotel they visited most frequently during the last 12 months, compared to $351 for millennials. Additionally, only about one in five Gen Xers reported they were engaged after their last hotel stay, revealing they are still waiting to be won over by a particular hotel brand. According to the study, whereas recommendations from friends have a strong influence on baby boomers and Gen Xers, online guest reviews have the most influence on millennials. Across all generations the study showed in-room bar, valet parking and bathrobes are considered the least important hotel offerings. Read more results online.
