Sporting a deluxe new look, Nuremberg’s former Bavarian-American Hotel reopened as the Park Plaza Nuremberg. The redesign by Scott Brownrigg Interior Designs adds a sophisticated contemporary edge to the historic 1930s property, which served as a residence for judges and prosecutors during the Nuremberg trials — and whose top floor was the location for the launch of the U.S. Army’s legendary Radio AFN program.

The new edgy-meets-sophisticated design scheme takes its inspiration from German mariner and astronomer Martin Behaim, and Renaissance theorist and artist Albrecht Dürer. Metallic pink gold and copper, shades of purple and gray and shimmery textures feature in each of the 177 guestrooms and suites, with amenities that include complimentary high-speed WiFi, mood lighting, Elemis bath products, large work spaces and 48-inch flat-screen Smart TVs.

In public spaces, the city’s cultural icons are featured in artwork and sculptures including interpretations of Dürer’s Rhino and Behaim’s Erdapfel globe. The property also features seven meeting rooms with theater-style seating, a modern fitness center and sauna and an on-site restaurant and bar. The hotel is also conveniently located in the city’s historic district, directly opposite the Nuremberg Central Station.
