A new study showed 41 percent of men cry on airplanes during in-flight movies.

The study from Virgin Atlantic revealed 55 percent of leisure travelers became emotional while flying — and not just from movies.

Some of the contributing factors include traveling alone, fear of flying and inability to contact family and friends.

“On a flight we’re isolated, leaving loved ones or aching to be reunited with them,” said Jason Solomons, film critic, Virgin Atlantic. “We’re nervous, we’re tired, we might have had a drink at a time we usually wouldn’t. You don’t really want to land with mascara running down your cheeks or bloodshot eyes but you can’t help it.”

Low oxygen and pressure levels in airplane cabins can also impact a traveler’s mood, which may initially be a feeling of euphoria, followed by depression. Add in alcohol, the stress of air travel and lack of sleep, and even the most bottled-up emotions can come pouring out.
