Next summer, Denver, Colorado, becomes home to the country’s first carbon-positive hotel. The 13-story Populus features 265 modern guestrooms, a ground-floor restaurant, café, flexible meeting spaces, and signature rooftop restaurant and bar. Architecture is designed by Studio Gang, with interiors envisioned by Wildman Chalmers Design.

Utilizing a warm color scheme, natural materials and an Aspen tree-inspired design, the hotel also will incorporate a thought-provoking art collection. Interiors reflect the building’s overall reverence for nature, carefully using natural woods, textures and finishes embracing the imperfections found in a forest. All interiors are designed with sustainability at the forefront, minimizing the building’s carbon footprint through consciously sourced materials.

Populus’ embodied and operational carbon footprint will be offset through forest and agricultural collaborations. Currently, more than 70,000 trees have already been planted in Gunnison County in partnership with One Tree Planted in relation to the United States Forest Service.
