Finnair opened its new Platinum Wing Lounge at Helsinki Airport. It’s now available for Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members, as well as oneworld Emerald cardholders.
The lounge sits in the non-Schengen zone of the airport, “making it convenient for customers heading to London or Finnair’s Far East and Asian destinations across China, Japan and to Singapore,” the airline said in a release.
The lounge includes a sauna that “replicates the authentic Finnish smoke sauna experience, with a large cooling area and mood lighting to ensure a calming environment.”
The airline also upgraded its dining options in partnership with Finnish firm Fazer, bringing new healthy eating options and an à la carte menu available until midnight.
David Kondo, head of customer experience product design, Finnair, said the carrier wanted to create “a sanctuary of calm from the business of the airport.” The lounge showcases a Nordic theme inspired by residential and hotel design.
The airline is also adding a revamped business-class lounge next to the Platinum Wing facility, providing a total of nearly 200 seats across the two spaces.

People need a “chance to get some well-needed rest, relaxation and fresh air.” This is a sentiment we all likely share, as does the European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union. The EC included that phrase when it released its plan to help reopen Europe following the COVID-19 global pandemic. While most EU borders remain closed to international travel until at least mid-June, the EC’s plan starts with inter-Europe travel, and are non-binding recommendations and guidelines. European countries still have the final decision, so travelers are advised to check the restrictions of the countries they plan to visit. According to the EC, “blanket restrictions of free movement are replaced by targeted measures.”
