The Fathom cruise ship Adonia made a historic voyage last month as the first U.S.-based cruise ship to sail to Cuba in decades. The ship left Miami and docked in Havana in late May. The Adonia’s seven-day cruise from Miami also stopped in Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. “And we’re off! #cuba here we come. #travelDeep,” read the company’s tweet before its inaugural journey. Fathom’s Adonia luxury ship can carry 704 passengers and will operate bi-weekly cruises out of Miami. Bookings start at $1,800 per person and feature cultural and educational activities including Spanish lessons. In March, the Cuban government approved plans by Carnival Corp., Fathom’s parent company, to sail to Cuba from Miami. “We made history in March, and we are a part of making history again today,” Arnold Donald, CEO, Carnival Corporation told NBC News. “More importantly, we are contributing to a positive future. This is a positive outcome and we are extremely pleased. We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Cuba and to our team who worked so hard to help make this happen.”
