EVA Air today became an official member of Star Alliance, a historic moment marking the alliance’s 28th member airline. With EVA firmly part of the Star Alliance, the network now serves more than 1,300 destinations in 195 countries.
The joining ceremony took place in EVA Air Hanger 3 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), with guests of honor including Mark Schwab, CEO, Star Alliance; Austin Cheng, president, EVA Air; Ms. Wang Yingxiang, vice chairman, Air China (the airline served as EVA Air’s sponsor for Star Alliance); and CEOs from select Star Alliance carriers. Media attended from around the world. Festivities included a red carpet, the debut of the first EVA Air and Star Alliance livery, performances by Taipei singers and dance troupes, speeches, light shows and music, videos, a lantern lighting ceremony and food and drink representative of all Star Alliance member carriers.
According to Schwab, the “addition of another high-quality member” will expand the Star Alliance mission of crossing cultures as “the bridge across the Straits gets stronger.” Nineteen member airlines operate more than 4,000 daily flights to, from and within the Asia/Pacific region, serving 280 airports in 44 countries.
EVA Air will now offer check-in for final flights and baggage on Star Alliance member carriers and members of EVA Air Infinity MileageLands frequent-flyer program can collect and redeem miles on all carriers.
