Emirates announced a new daily service from Dubai (DXB) to Newark (EWR) via the Greek capital Athens (ATH).

The new, fifth freedom route will launch March 12 using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The aircraft is configured for eight first-class seats, 42 business-class seats and 304 in economy.

“The Greek Government and Athens International Airport approached Emirates some time ago to consider serving the route between Athens and New York,” said Tim Clark, president, Emirates. “After careful review, Emirates concluded that extending one of our Dubai-Athens flights to Newark would be commercially and operationally feasible. We are pleased to be able to help meet a strong consumer need long neglected by other airlines, and we would like to thank the authorities and our partners in both the United States and Greece for their support of the new route.”

The flight EK209 will depart Dubai at 10:50 a.m. and arrive into Athens at 2:25 p.m. before leaving at 4:40 p.m. and landing at 10 p.m. in Newark. The return leg of the EK210 service will depart at 11:45 p.m. landing in Athens at 3:05 p.m. the following day and then take off at 5:10 p.m. to arrive in Dubai at 11:50 p.m.

The service will add to the airline’s existing four daily flights between Dubai and New York (JFK).
