March, April and May brought flooding, tornadoes and wildfires to many states in the United States. As inhabitants search for shelter and ways to rebuild, The American Red Cross is expecting to supply $31 million in aid.

Since March 31, 21 natural disasters have affected 23 states, including Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri and Kentucky.

In April, the South and Midwest were devastated by five separate storm systems causing record damages and leaving homes, businesses and crops destroyed.

Major flooding along the Mississippi, caused by severe rainfall and snowmelt, displaced thousands in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. The historic floods were the worst some areas had seen since the 1930s.

A series of more than 100 tornadoes, the worst experienced in the last four decades, ravaged six states, damaging more than 13,000 homes. Alabama was the hardest-hit state; casualties and damage were also reported in Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Arkansas and Georgia.

Wildfires have scorched about 2.5 million acres of U.S. land this year. Approximately 25,000 fires have burned across Texas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, California, Kansas and North Carolina.
