Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, one of the country’s busiest airports, is considering expanding to handle its large volume. The airport is starting discussions with American Airlines about building a sixth terminal at the airport.
The existing five terminals could be joined by a new Terminal F. The current plans would depart from the semicircular design that enables extensive parking facilities. The new terminal would go up south of Terminal D, near the South Express parking lot.
The new terminal might be built without any new parking. The terminal’s linear design would be geared more toward connecting passengers. “Sixty percent of our customers at this airport are here to connect, and the half-moon is not a terrific design for connecting customers,” said Sean Donohue, CEO, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The pier-like design would allow for more planes in less space, and the new terminal could accommodate international and domestic flights.
The addition is still in a proposal stage, but could be folded into a larger $3–4 billion capital improvement project that would also see improvements to Terminal C, the airport’s busiest.
