The Trump Administration announced another policy update on Cuba last week, aimed at cracking down on the island’s communist-run government. Five months after President Trump announced he was ending President Obama’s Cuba policy, his administration released a lengthy list of new restrictions.

U.S. tourists and companies can no longer do business with 180 companies allegedly tied to Cuban military, intelligence or security services, and U.S. travelers are once again required to only visit Cuba as part of an organized tour group run by U.S. companies, universities or other educational programs.

This follows a travel warning announced by the U.S. Department of State in late September concerning supposed attacks on U.S. Embassy Havana employees. After listing a range of physical symptoms such as fatigue, headache and difficulty sleeping, the Department of State announced it had not yet identified the responsible party.

There are still many accommodations, restaurants, bars and shops available to U.S. travelers, and cruise lines and airlines continue operation. While permission to travel to Cuba is not required, the Treasury Department requests citizens who travel to Cuba provide paperwork proving they did not violate any newly imposed laws.
