Our train in Salzburg was canceled and what should have been a short, scenic ride to Munich turned into a long, tiring day. The clouds were dark and the raindrops were beginning to fall as we navigated the busy sidewalks of the city center. Luckily, our hotel was only a five-minute walk from Hofbrau Station. Several guests were waiting to check in at the reception desk. Workmen were updating the front counter — covering tile with a sleek, silver material. The friendly staff inspected passports and provided us with maps of Munich. Travelers who book their reservation through Marriott and are members of the loyalty program receive complimentary internet in their guestroom. Otherwise, service costs €7.50 per day. WiFi is available for free throughout the hotel’s public areas.
Our wheelchair-accessible room looked as though it had been recently decorated with a striped carpet and a lime-colored chair with a dark blue ottoman. A flat-screen television was positioned above a large work desk. The king-sized bed was comfy, and there was ample room to maneuver a wheelchair or even add a roll-away bed, if needed. An in-room coffeemaker and mini-fridge were handy amenities. The entire hotel is smoke-free, and pets are welcome. Guests can purchase bottled water, a candy bar or sundries in the hotel’s market located next to the lobby. Exhausted from our day of traveling, we opted to dine in the hotel’s restaurant. Oléo Pazzo serves Mediterranean-inspired cuisine prepared in a show kitchen. The special of the day was a delicious Italian-themed hamburger, and a portion of the price was donated to a local charity. In the mornings, the restaurant was crowded with guests enjoying the self-serve breakfast buffet. The restaurant uses the freshest ingredients possible including a real honeycomb dripping natural sweetener for toast, tea or yogurt. After a restful night, we were ready to enjoy the sights in Munich. We began the day with a visit to the Olympic Park and rode to the top of the tower for a panoramic view of the city. After a short ride on the wheelchair-accessible U-Bahn to Marienplatz, we met up with a certified tour guide who took us to the city’s oldest church, St. Peter’s; the beautiful Rathaus (New Town Hall); the elegant Poet’s Garden; and the boisterous Viktualienmarkt food market. We stayed several nights in the Courtyard, which is a good choice for either the business or leisure traveler. The proximity to Munich’s main train station is convenient and the hotel is a short walk to dozens of major attractions.Courtyard Munich City Center
