Sustainability and environmental consciousness is a growing trend in the tourism industry. and Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is one of the latest properties to introduce initiatives to attract ever-conscious travelers.

The property’s initiatives include partnerships with Parley for the Oceans and artist John K. Melvin to take on some of the biggest problems facing the world’s oceans.

Work with Parley for the Oceans began late summer 2019, which initially entailed giving each guest a Parley Kit upon arrival. Each kit contained a reusable stainless steel 0.7-liter Conrad x Parley co-branded water bottle and a Parley Ocean Plastic Tote Bag. Each tote bag is made of roughly five recycled plastic bottles.

The resort is also using art as a way to inspire its guests toward sustainability. The resort commissioned Melvin to create an art installation representing the goal of reducing plastic pollution among guests. The art, created with 5,500 plastic bottles and held together by coir rope and steel cable, resembles a jellyfish and serves as a visual reminder of the importance of combating climate change.
