With 12 different tropical microclimates, beautiful beaches, grand waterfalls and unique cloud forests, Costa Rica serves as the perfect spot for travelers seeking their first glamping experience. Glamping allows travelers to better enjoy and experience the beauty and adventure of Costa Rica’s wilderness while having the conveniences of modern life.
Many companies in Costa Rica offer glamping accommodations ranging from treetop pods; to cozy yurts; to eco-lodges; and luxury, safari-style tents. Look for providers with Certified Sustainable Certificates from Costa Rica Tourism Board, as this shows a provider’s dedication to the sustainability of the land and a passion for protecting the ecosystems in which they operate.
Here are five popular glamping locations promising an immersive experience:
La Fortuna
This small town, often nicknamed the adventure capital of Costa Rica, is home to the famous 5,436-foot Arenal Volcano. Surrounding it are volcano-fed hot springs where travelers can take a dip. La Fortuna also boasts exceptional activities and sites like hanging bridges, zip lining over a rainforest canopy, whitewater rafting, waterfall rappelling and nocturnal wildlife tours.
Sarapiquí
Perhaps one of the lesser-known destinations in the country, visitors can freely explore this destination, known for its ecotourism experiences, adventure excursions and rich biodiversity. Take a tour of one of the many sustainable farms and learn about everyday conservation, farm-to-table practices, and local greenhouse farming and procurement. Sarapiquí draws thrill-seekers thanks to its whitewater rafting trips, as well as tubing, canoeing, horseback riding and nocturnal bat-spotting experiences.
Puerto Viejo, Limón
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca sits on the shores of the Caribbean Sea and invites travelers to explore the area via dirt-paved roads by bike. Travelers can immerse themselves in the local Afro-Caribbean, Bribri Indigenous and Latino cultures best reflected in the area’s gastronomy and music scenes. While in the area, head to Cahuita National Park to view coral reefs or visit Gandoca Mazanillo Wildlife Refuge to spot rare habitats like a lowland rainforest, wetland, mangrove swamp and 8-mile beach strip.
Manuel Antonio
White-sand beaches and tropical rain forests await at Manuel Antonio, located on the country’s Pacific coast. Embark on hiking trails filled with sloths, white-faced squirrels and howler monkeys before hitting Manuel Antonio National Park’s four beaches for swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling. This region sits just a few minutes from the coastal town of Uvita, a popular spot for whale watching.
Nicoya Peninsula
A quintessential surf town, Nosara on Nicoya Peninsula boasts miles of unspoiled coastline. Nosara sits a 25-minute drive from Ostional National Wildlife Refuge and features beaches like Playa Nosara, Guiones and Pelada. Keep an eye out for turtles while on the beach, for they often nest between August and November at the wildlife refuge.

Sep 6, 2024Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise
The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
