Chinese tourists are the largest group of travellers in the world, and the numbers keep growing, especially in the United States.
Due in part to a recent agreement between the United States and China to extend visas for short-term business travellers, tourists and students, the United States could see an increase in Chinese travellers in the near future.
According to the latest Chinese International Travel Monitory by Hotels.com, the United States is the second most popular destination for Chinese travellers to visit this year, behind France. Popular U.S. landmarks and destinations include the Grand Canyon, Hollywood, the Statue of Liberty and more.
The CITM research also explains while cities in Asia Pacific remain the most popular — 82 per cent of Chinese travellers visited in the past 12 months — visitors to Europe and the United States increase year over year. These destinations are particularly popular with millennials, with 42 per cent visiting Europe and 29 per cent visiting the United States in the past 12 months. In 2016, there were 122 million outbound Chinese tourists, 4 per cent more than 2015 and a surprising 74 per cent more than 2011.
According to CITM, the top U.S. destinations for Chinese travellers are Hawai’i, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle and San Francisco.
