Three Chinese airlines submitted applications for new Europe routes to the Civil Aviation Administration of China. China Eastern Airlines applied for a twice-weekly service between Milan (MXP) and Wenzhou (WNZ), which it hopes to start flying this October.
Travelers can fly from Milan Malpensa Airport to four Chinese cities, including Beijing (PEK), Shanghai (PVG), Nanjing (NKG) and Guiyang (KWE). Air China offers daily non-stop between Milan and Beijing and Shanghai, while Italian carrier Neos Air flies twice-weekly to Nanjing, and once a week to Guiyang.
Other additions could be on the way from Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines, which applied for two routes from Shanghai Pudong to Manchester (MAN) and Athens (ATH). The proposed Shanghai Pudong–Manchester service would fly three-times weekly, starting March 2020. Currently, only Hainan Airlines flies four times a week between Beijing and Manchester.
Juneyao also wants to add a route between Shanghai Pudong and Athens, which would operate three times a week starting March 2020. Right now, Air China is the only Chinese carrier with a Beijing–Athens service, which it operates three-times weekly.
Beijing Capital Airlines (a low-cost subsidiary of Hainan Airlines) wants to start a Beijing–Xi’an (XIY)–Lisbon (LIS) service, weekly, with operations starting this July.
All of these routes are still pending approval.

May 8, 2024The Peninsula Bangkok Resort Review
Bangkok is one of the world’s most exciting cities, and we — me and my wife — have front-row seats. From the wood-paneled living room of our 16th-floor deluxe suite in The Peninsula, we look out on a panoramic sweep of the Chao Phraya River, one of the city’s most important routes. Day and night the river jostles with ferries, cruise boats, barges, speedboats and distinctive long-tail boats. We view it all in air-conditioned comfort.
