As of the beginning of 2020, China Southern Airlines is no longer a member of the SkyTeam alliance.
In November 2018, the Guangzhou-based airline stated it would leave the alliance before Jan. 1, 2020, to join another alliance, still to be determined.
Despite its departure from SkyTeam, China Southern will keep its existing codeshare partnerships with current members of the alliance such as Aeroflot, Air France, Delta Air Lines, China Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines — no changes will be made to its Sky Pearl Club frequent-flyer program.
China Southern will continue to increase its bilateral codeshare partnerships with airlines like American Airlines, British Airways, Emirates, Qantas and Qatar Airways. China Southern’s joint business agreement with British Airways went into effect Jan. 2.
China’s largest airline (based on the number of passengers carried) owns former fellow SkyTeam member Xiamen Air.
